Conceptual Cross-Section

From the outset - above is the original concept drawing - the idea was to create a building which would allow lots of light to bounce in through the deep window openings, creating even, diffuse illumination. The building would also allow for a natural flow of air from low to high across the roof, so creating unaided ventilation.

Heating efficiency comes by using highly effective modern insulation materials and very efficient heating units.

Below are a series of pictures taken inside a scale model of the structure showing some of the hoped for lighting effects. For ease of modelling pews are shown but we will be using chairs! Firstly the back of the main worship space showing the lighting and ventilation at the top. There are three small rooms off the balcony and two more meeting rooms at ground level.

Lighting at the back of the sanctuary

The picture below shows evening light entering through the roof light at the extreme north end of the building.

Lighting on the North wall

Below the camera is positioned to look north along the balcony.
